While there’s nothing better than a Sunday morning spent lounging around the apartment and wearing your comfiest sweatpants, you might be growing a little tired of them. We’re pretty sure that’s why you decided to Google search “What shoes to wear with joggers?” and broaden your streetwear and home-wear horizons.
We’re also aware that you’ve probably been spending most of your days wearing tailored trousers, structured button-ups, clean-cut blazers, and stilettos. Truth be told, you’ve been meaning to switch things up and (hopefully) find a happy medium between the two.
Sure, you don’t want to continue feeling restricted and uncomfortable for days, weeks, and even months on end. But, you’re not happy about the thought of going to work or running errands while sporting your very, very worn-out sweatpants, either.
Girl, swap those sweats for joggers, throw on an oversized coat, sunglasses, and an overpriced handbag, and you’re ready to go. At least that’s what Hailey Bieber does, and you know how we feel about her fall fashion choices.
Next time you’re wondering what shoes to wear with joggers, you don’t even have to bother with Google (or the neverending cycle of articles recommending you to buy something you don’t want to buy).
Ask yourself, “What would Hailey wear?” and voilà, you have a trendy thing to wear wherever you’re going. Other than our favorite fashion babe, we have a slew of stylish suggestions ready for you to copy, paste, and rock on the streets of your city. But before that, what even makes joggers that exciting?
1. White sneakers
Girlie, you need white sneakers whether you’re going to wear them with joggers or not! First off, they’re a wardrobe staple for a reason.
They’re easy to style because they go with everything from streetwear to workwear. They’ve become more popular over the past couple of years when we started searching for comfort rather than aesthetics. And, they’ve been designed to last for multiple seasons.
White sneakers, however, can be a little overwhelming because there are so many to choose from. From Stan Smiths and chunky “dad” sneakers to Kanye’s Yeezy sneakers, we’ve seen every trend come and go.
But, simple, sleek white sneakers never go out of style. And, that’s what you should be aiming towards when choosing the right sneaker for your lifestyle.
As a matter of fact, classic tennis sneakers, canvas low-tops, and retro-inspired styles work wonders when combined with something equally as basic and, dare we say, boring as joggers. Our favorite white sneakers at the moment are Veja Campo sneakers which work great with every outfit.
Turns out that two boring things make one fashion-forward outfit you can turn to whenever you’re unsure of what to wear. Throw a puffer jacket on top, add a sporty handbag, and you’re good to go.
Of course, white sneakers can be worn with something a little more “out there.” We already gave you a Hailey Bieber reference, but other supermodels wear white sneakers with oversized coats, baseball caps, and Starbucks Lattes, too.
2. Chunky sneakers
We keep track of what the supermodels are wearing, and that’s why we keep talking your ears off about Hailey Bieber’s brown obsession and the Hadid sisters’ tendency to wear sneakers with tailored trousers, suit sets, and structured button-downs.
And, we always take a page out of the supermodels’ book because they’re experts at styling loungewear and looking gorgeous as ever. Therefore, stop wondering what shoes to wear with joggers and start shopping for chunky sneakers you can wear with everything.
Other than vintage denim, overpriced handbags, and fresh-off-the-runway unreleased pieces, supermodels seem to gravitate towards chunky boots and sneakers.
Of course, we’re obsessed with the thought of styling cotton straight-leg sweats and sneakers for that “everything looks big and oversized on me” Ariana Grande moment.
While we could suggest going for Gucci Chunky B embroidered sneakers or Naked Wolfe Fighter chunky sneakers, you can easily get your hands on affordable ones that won’t cost you more than $100.
Zara running shoes, Fila Disruptor premium sneakers, and Vans Sk8-Hi canvas sneakers could be your go-to chunky sneakers of 2022. Whichever ones you decide to go with, remember you can always throw a good-quality, structured coat over the entire outfit, add some sunglasses, and look really, really stylish.
3. Chuck Taylors
Converse Chuck Taylors are a good sneaker to have across the board. They’re versatile, they go with everything, and they’re recognizable because of the iconic Converse silhouette.
They belong on the list of those tried-and-true staples you can turn to whenever you don’t what shoes to wear with joggers, sweatpants, or other athleisure trousers. They also come with a really great story you can share whenever someone asks you, “You’re wearing Converse, again?!”
The Massachusetts Converse Rubber Shoe Company made rubber-soled footwear for men before experimenting with basketball shoes because they were looking to expand the business.
But, they didn’t become that popular before Chuck Taylor, a coach and a salesman, started advertising them across the country. When he started getting those sales off the roof, Converse decided to name one of the styles the Chuck Taylors.
And, they even added Chuck Taylor’s name to the shoe’s signature ankle patch, which they never removed.
With that incredibly interesting story of origin out of the way, we can move on to the styling portion. Converse Chuck Taylors kept the signature look over the years, but they experimented with different color combinations, soles, and other embellishments you can choose from.
4. Converse high-tops
“But, how can I wear sneakers with joggers when it’s cold outside?!” We know that’s what you’re thinking while reading some of our suggestions.
While you might not like the thought of wearing sneakers during the raining or snowing season, that’s not to say that you wouldn’t be able to get away with that. Emily Ratajkowski wouldn’t agree with your criticism of sneakers as a fall fashion statement, you know?
Here’s the thing, Converse high-tops are great sneakers to have around when you’re wondering what shoes to wear with joggers when you don’t want to be too cold.
Sure, boots would be a better choice for winter, but fall fashion seems much more forgiving (when the weather allows such experiments, of course).
How do you style Converse high-tops with something as simple and comfortable as joggers, then? Emily loves wearing them with dresses, skirts, and knitwear for that much-needed edge.
Edge seems to be the thing that’s missing from your everyday, lounging around the apartment, eating everything you can get your hands on, type of outfit.
Hence, try wearing the Converse high-tops with a hooded top (a.k.a a hoodie when you’re not trying to sound fancy), a leather jacket, and a leather handbag for an outfit worthy of a trip to Target.
On the other hand, combine your high-tops with a pair of black leather joggers, a black knitted turtleneck, and a leather handbag for a monochromatic, cool girl-approved look.
5. Running sneakers
Running shoes are great for when you’re going running. But, that’s not to say that they’re not an appropriate choice of footwear when you’re trying to make sure you’re coworkers know how modern and fashion-forward your teambuilding outfits are.
So, when you’re planning on working out with your team and wondering what shoes to wear with joggers – we’ve got your back. When choosing the perfect running shoe, you shouldn’t go for aesthetics only.
While there’s nothing wrong with wanting to stand out on your morning run, you should make sure you choose the right shoes based on how you’re running, where you’re running, and whether you’re literally preparing for a marathon.
When you answer those questions, you can search for running shoes that check everything you’re looking for.
Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 37 Shield sneakers, New Balance Fresh Foam 1080v11 running shoes, and HOKA One One Kawana Running Shoe seem to be trending when we’re talking about a running shoe that’s both aesthetically pleasing and beaming with practicality.
However, we have to gravitate towards the more expensive and embellished shoe such as the APL Athletic Propulsion Labs Streamline Rubber-Trimmed Ripstop sneaker (which has to be the most beautiful sneaker we’ve ever seen). Joggers, running shoes, and a statement puffer jacket for the win!
6. Chunky combat boots
Sneakers are always a good staple to have, whether you’re planning on wearing them with sweats or dresses. But, there are times when you’re wondering what shoes to wear with joggers without going for the obvious choice – sneakers.
And, there’s nothing better than combining them with chunky combat boots for a perfect balance between form and function. Chunky styles have been trending on every runway show for quite some time, and who are we to argue with the likes of Bottega Veneta, Marc Jacobs, and Prada?
Combat boots happen to be an excellent way to experiment with fabrics, patterns, and styles. Most combat boots work great with flowy, floral dresses, leather leggings, and cotton sweatpants.
Therefore, don’t wait too long before you start shopping for chunky combat boots. Dr. Martens ‘1460’ Boot, Prada Monolith Brushed Rois Leather and Nylon Boots, and R13 Platform Leather Lace-Up Boots carry the same energy and look amazing combined with joggers, hoddies, and oversized coats.
7. Wellington boots
Oh, you don’t need to wonder what shoes to wear with joggers when you take a glance at what Alexa Chung, Florence Welch, and Kate Moss have been wearing for ages. Wellington boots aren’t your average rainy-day choice of footwear anymore.
Wellies are every cool girl’s wardrobe staple and we’re bringing you the tea on how you can style them the right way. Wellington boots are one of those shoes that work with bohemian, free-spirited dresses as much as they work with denim trousers, leather leggings, and cotton sweatpants.
Depending on the vibe you’re going for, wear your Wellies with figure-hugging joggers (yes, those are a thing), a soft, cashmere sweater, and a woolen scarf for some warmth. Or, wear them with leather joggers, a chunky, cable-knit turtleneck, and a double-breasted coat for an elevated, grabbing-a-bite moment.
As long as you tuck them in, there’s no reason why your joggers wouldn’t work well with Wellies.
8. UGGs
UGGs were the shoe everyone was wearing around the 2000s, but they seem to be making a comeback with newer styles. We couldn’t help but notice Joan Smalls, Hailey Bieber, and Emily Ratajkowski have been wearing the brand’s newest addition to the collection – the Mini UGGs.
We’ve been hating them for decades. We’ve been dragging them through the mud because we thought they were too comfortable, too easygoing, and too snug.
We were wrong, and UGGs came back with style reminding everyone why they were the winter shoe of the 2000s. And, we’re happy to offer you styling suggestions based on our newly found love for UGGs.
Go for the supermodel-on-a-break moment combine joggers, a matching hoodie, and your favorite style of UGGs. Sunglasses and a tote bag are a must, but the look won’t be complete without a Starbucks Latte.
Other than that, you can always throw away the accessories, put on a puffer vest, and go run your errands without the annoying tendency to look your best at all times.
9. Birkenstocks
“Puffer jackets and oversized coats can’t fix everything! What am I supposed to wear when it’s warm outside?” Birkenstocks, of course!
Contrary to popular belief, you can spend your summer sporting sweatpants (kind of). Sweatpants might be a little too warm for the summer, but joggers aren’t. Joggers are made out of lightweight materials and you can always find a style that fits the summer weather.
Birkenstocks are (and will always be) the type of shoe that makes you look both stylish and understated. They’re not over the top, but they bring the right amount of something to your outfit that makes you look polished and put-together.
They’re pretty versatile which means you can wear them with looser trousers, sweatpants, and joggers. Trust me, wear a simple ribbed tank on top, and you’re ready to take on the world. We’re voting for Papillio by Birkenstock Arizona genuine shearling slides and Boston by Birkenstock clogs.
10. Stilettos
We’re pretty sure that’s not what you expected to read when you decided to Google search “what shoes to wear with joggers.” But, we swore to bring you a complete list of shoes that would work with such trousers, whatever your style preferences might be.
We’ve seen enough of the Kardashian sisters sporting sweatpants with stilettos booties to know what works and what doesn’t. Joggers and stilettos might not be for everyone, but those unexpected combinations tend to leave the biggest marks on the fashion world.
With that out of the way, we have to underline the fact that stiletto booties might be your best bet. Leather joggers, for example, combined with leather stiletto booties are bound to elevate the entire ensemble and make your legs look longer (always a plus).
Stiletto pumps add that unexpected element and strappy stilettos take things even further. Whichever style you go for, keep the same color palette throughout the outfit and you have nothing to worry about.
