Now would probably be a good time to tell you what are the things you need to prepare before you start cleaning your shoes. So, to make it easier for you, I’ve made you a list of the necessary things you’ll need to get first.

– Two big bowls

– Warm water

– Mild detergent

– An old toothbrush

– A soft brush

– 2 towels

– Microfiber cloth

– Motivation

Okay, now that you have all these things, you’re ready to get to work!

2. Pay attention to the amount of water you’re using

Imagine this. You finally get some motivation to clean your shoes. You prepare everything and proceed to do the first step. It says that you need to dip them in water so you do that. But nothing happens! They’re still dry and all the water just rolled down.

Now you’re looking at your dry shoes and wondering what just happened. And your only option to clean them well is to use a soft brush and scrub them for hours.

Luckily for you, that’s not going to happen today. There’s false information circling around that corduroy can’t get wet. But that’s completely untrue. Therefore, you don’t need to worry about cleaning your corduroy shoes.

However, even though they can get wet, we wouldn’t recommend you go overboard with it. That’s because corduroy is a beautiful, but also very sensitive fabric. So, it can easily get damaged from too much water.

You’ll likely end up dealing with the foundations of your shoes falling apart. Since we don’t think that’s your initial plan, we advise you to be careful. Never put them in the washing machine, but put a little more effort and use hand washing techniques.

3. Start the cleaning process

And finally, it’s time to start! We’re about to teach you how to properly clean corduroy shoes. So, let’s get them back from a zero to a hundred.

The first thing you’ll need to do is to remove as much dirt as you can. I’m talking about the mud, leaves, stones, or anything else that can easily get stuck in them. The best way to do so is to use a soft brush and a pair of gloves.

Then gently brush or pick out all the loose dirt. Sometimes I even shake my shoes so it’s easier to get rid of any excess dirt and debris.

As we’ve already mentioned, you need to be very careful as the material is very soft and sensitive. Gently brush the parts, and don’t put too much pressure because you might risk damaging them before we’ve even started cleaning.

However, it’s not uncommon that some things still stay stuck. If that happens to you, you can get a vacuum hose and try to remove the leftovers. And that should finally do the work so you’ll be able to move to step number two.

Step number two is to remove the laces and separate them from your shoes so you can wash them. It’s best you take a bowl of warm water, put some detergent in it and leave them there until you clean your corduroy shoes. I like to leave them there so they smell nice afterward.

Don’t worry, we’ll get back to the laces later.

4. Round 2!

Now you’ll need another bowl of clean water. It doesn’t matter if it’s cold or warm, however, I prefer that it’s warm as it can kill more bacteria. The easiest way to prepare the water is to add a bit of mild detergent. But be careful not to add too much. A few drops will be enough!

When you’ve successfully prepared the bowl and prepared your shoes, it will be time to take a soft brush or a damp washcloth. And then simply put it in the cleaning mix you’ve just made and gently brush the surface of your shoes.

However, keep in mind that we’ve mentioned you need to be careful not to get your shoes too wet as it can damage the fabric. And be careful about the temperature as water that is too hot is also very dangerous for your precious babies.

Repeat the steps as many times as needed until you see the results. And when you do, take a microfiber cloth or a towel to wipe off all the cleaning mix that is still on your shoes. Leave them in a nice place to air dry, and you’re done!

Now we only need to get back to laces, wait for everything to dry and you’ll feel like you just got yourself a brand new pair of shoes.

Okay, so take an old toothbrush and go back to your laces. Brush them gently and rinse them in warm water. And boom, you’re done. Yes, it’s as simple as that. So, congratulations! You’ve just cleaned your corduroy shoes!

Can you clean them with only water and soap?

Many people wanted to know whether it’s possible to clean corduroy shoes with only soap and water. And if you’re one of them, I have the answer you’re looking for. Yes, it’s possible to do it, but you need to be aware that the results won’t be as good as when you make a special cleaning mix.

However, in case you still feel like soap and water are going to be your first cleaning option, I’ll tell you how to do it to get the best result possible.

Luckily, the steps are similar to what we’ve learned already. So, the first step is to shake the shoe to try to get rid of all the dirt that’s stuck on your shoes. Then take a soft bristle and clean the rest of your shoes.

Take a bowl and put warm water in it. After you’ve done that, take a piece of soap and mix it in water. Leave the cleaning mixture like that for about half an hour. Add more warm water and then your mixture will be ready to use.

Rinse your shoes with it but be careful not to squeeze your corduroy shoes in order to get them dry sooner. Let them air dry so you don’t damage them accidentally.

Even though mild cleaners might do most of the work, there will be some stains that are a bit more stubborn and you’ll need something a bit stronger to successfully get rid of them. However, at the same time, you need to be careful not to choose a cleaner that’s too strong and might damage your shoes.

So, our favorite picks for these occasions are Jason Markk Shoe Cleaner or Lincoln E-Z Cleaner. Both of them have five-star reviews and they will help you get your spotless shoes back without worrying about damaging them.

The rest of the process can stay pretty much the same. So, the only bigger difference will be making your cleaning mix. Laces can be cleaned the same way, so you’ll need a toothbrush and a separate water bowl with mild detergent.

While the cleaning mix for your corduroy shoes will be made out of warm water and a stronger detergent.

However, there’s another difference that we need to point out. When you finish cleaning, before you wipe off any excess soap, you’ll need to take a towel and gently clean your shoes again but only by using water.

And then you’ll take another dry towel to wipe them off again. Leave them to dry and your stains should be gone.

How to clean the inside of your corduroy shoes?

Firstly, you need to know what you’ll need to complete this task successfully. Luckily, there aren’t many things, so, you’ll only need to grab some baking soda and a vacuum hose.

Now that we have what we need, we can start learning the steps. The first step is to put 3 tablespoons of baking soda in both of your shoes. Then shake your shoe gently so it gets to all parts of your shoe. And then let it sit like that for an hour and a half.

After an hour and a half passes, take out all the baking soda and use a vacuum hose to help you remove everything that’s still stuck in your shoe. However, you need to be prepared that this whole process might need to be repeated 2-3 times.
